This wearable piece reclaims two everyday essentials in many women’s lives—bras and tampons—both of which are often treated as sources of embarrassment despite their functional necessity. Inspired by the cultural discomfort surrounding visible bra straps and feminine hygiene products, we created a top that celebrates, rather than conceals, these items. The design incorporates tampon wrappers as delicate fringe and structural detailing, transforming stigma into style.
Referencing the recent SNL sketch Tampax Secrets, which critiques how far women go to hide their needs for the sake of others’ comfort, this project turns that concealment on its head. Constructed from an old t-shirt, hot glue, and roughly 40 tampons, the final piece embraces visibility—combining utility with a corset-inspired silhouette to make something both subversive and chic. Wearing and making this top in public became part of the statement: confronting discomfort, and celebrating what’s been unjustly hidden.
