Next in LineSecond-hand materials, 2022.
For USC ARTEMIS’s Next In Line sustainable fashion show, I designed and hand-made three looks entirely from secondhand materials sourced from local thrift stores. The show’s theme, “Power, Royalty, and Hierarchy in the Modern Age,” inspired me to subvert traditional symbols of elitism by transforming accessible, low-cost items into garments evoking opulence and strength.

Each look explored a distinct concept: a bride in battle—an all-white dress armored with reflective metal plating; the opulence of a chandelier—layered textures and shimmering accents; and suits/overalls as workwear—reclaiming industrial silhouettes as fashion statements. Together, the collection challenged notions of luxury and status while highlighting sustainability and resourceful creativity.

This was my first time constructing full outfits from scratch, building on prior upcycling work with Bloom, a campus fashion collective. The process emphasized that fashion doesn’t require excess to express power—it can emerge from constraint.
