This work considers how generative art can extend the legacy of traditional artists by building on their visual language rather than imitating it. Inspired by Ed Ruscha’s exhibition at LACMA, and in particular his bubble paintings that combine restraint with visual intrigue, the project reimagines his approach through dynamic digital media.
The composition brings static textures into motion, animating translucent bubbles across a soft blue background. These visual elements preserve the aesthetic spirit of the original work while allowing for new forms of engagement. Through the use of interactive code, viewers can customize gradients, bubble density, and text, which appears in Ruscha’s distinctive typeface reading “Self Care.” This phrase suggests a modern reinterpretation of his themes related to consumer culture and personal identity.
By translating the ideas behind Ruscha’s work into a generative and interactive format, the project offers a new way of connecting with art. It invites people to become collaborators, constructing variations from a shared visual vocabulary and reimagining familiar materials through code.
